Producing an engaging hybrid event for Boehringer Ingelheim

The Client
A global leader in human pharmaceuticals, biopharmaceuticals, and animal health, Boehringer Ingelheim boasts a rich history dating back to 1885. With a strong focus on research and development, this privately-held company employs over 47,700 people across 146 affiliates worldwide.
The Challenge
Our long-term client Boehringer Ingelheim was in the process of organising the second edition of its Transforming Science Day – Europe. This is an annual event that brings together scientists, researchers and pharmaceutical industry leaders to discuss and showcase groundbreaking advancements in healthcare, and foster innovation to meet patients’ needs.
Building upon the success of the first edition, held in Boston in 2023 as a hybrid event, Boehringer Ingelheim approached UKSV to organise an equally successful European instalment.
- A global public, with delegates flying in from the US and Europe
- 160 delegates in person
- +1,600 online participants
The Objective
The event required hosting an in-person audience at the prestigious Francis Crick Institute in London, while simultaneously engaging a virtual audience through a LinkedIn livestream.
To ensure the success of the Transforming Science Day, we needed to make sure both audiences were equally engaged, enjoying a smoothly-run and glitch-free experience.
The Goals
Our Approach
UKSV provided the technical production setup for the event venue, and managed the livestream to ensure a seamless experience.
The venue’s existing technology was adequate, but the auditorium was divided into two halves, making it challenging to integrate in-house equipment. After a thorough technical assessment, the production team at UKSV worked to make the most of in-house technology, while supplementing it with our own equipment. Our team also managed the livestream via LinkedIn Live to ensure a smooth and professional event for both audiences.
Presenters and senior leaders flew in from the United States and Europe for Transforming Science Day. To help our client capitalise on this opportunity, we filmed interviews and vox pops to create videos to be used both during and after the event.
The Results
With all technical aspects of the event taken care of, Boehringer Ingelheim could focus on delivering updates on key research areas and external innovation. Boehringer Ingelheim's R&D leadership team, along with prestigious guests like Sir Peter Ratcliffe, talked about some of the most pressing challenges in healthcare and science today.
For the in-person audience, the event provided a valuable opportunity to network with other senior R&D leaders across the industry. For the virtual audience, it offered a chance to be updated on critical research innovations from wherever they were, and to ask questions and interact with top-level researchers and industry leaders regardless of their location.

VTI Radio gives me the ability to connect with colleagues I wouldn’t normally interact with and colleagues that I may never meet, as well as talk to people from all around the business. I also love that VTI Radio’s request feature allows us to collaborate on a personal level through our choice and love of music – a song can trigger a memory or a feeling in a way nothing else can and you can share that with your colleagues by choosing what you want to hear
